In the current CL state of play, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are both in the top four of the English Premier League. If the season ended today, they would qualify for the group stage. However, Liverpool would have to play a two-legged qualifier in early August which stretched their resources. New rules are also in place which may not be favourable for champions of other divisions. These include a bloated pre-group schedule and a two-path qualifying process.
Liverpool
Chelsea and Liverpool have both already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Both sides won their respective Group B games against Red Bull Salzburg and Lille respectively. Both teams needed only one win in order to qualify for the knockout stage and they both won, 2-0, on the road. Tottenham, meanwhile, travelled to Bayern Munich knowing they could finish second.
Liverpool are second in the group, with two wins and a draw. Their possible opponents in the last-16 are Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, with Chelsea and Tottenham in third. A win over Barcelona or Manchester City would give Liverpool the advantage in their knockout draw against either of them. If Tottenham and Chelsea do qualify, they could face Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, or a weakened Porto.
Chelsea
Three of England’s top sides are on the brink of knockout stage football this season. However, if Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool all advance they will need to be on their best form in order to get there. It may be a daunting task, but they can do it, with a few key changes. The three sides are without two key players who could be rested for the World Cup.
Chelsea have been solid in Europe since parting ways with Thomas Tuchel. A win in Austria could see them book their place in the Round of 16. Austria have drawn their last four group games, so Chelsea should come out on top in the second half and clinch their knockout spot. Tottenham can also secure a knockout stage spot if they beat Sporting Lisbon. Marseille, on the other hand, could knock out the English side.

Tottenham Hotspur
The group stages of the Champions League have been drawn, and four Premier League teams are set to learn their fates. All four English clubs made it to the knockout stages in last season’s competition, and three of them won their groups. Manchester City and Liverpool topped their groups, while Chelsea finished second, ahead of Roma. Spurs will face a tough task in reaching the knockout stage, but it is far from impossible.
Both teams have easier groups than their opponents, and Liverpool have fewer players out for the World Cup. Tottenham, meanwhile, will depend heavily on Son and Kane. Despite the relatively easy group, Tottenham fans should be expecting 15 points from six games. One fan, however, compared the draw to their team’s Europa League tie.
AC Milan
Despite a disappointing start to the group stage, AC Milan is still in the hunt to make the knockout stage of the Champions League. With two games left in the group, AC Milan must win both of their games against Dinamo Zagreb and Salzburg to make sure of their place in the knockout stage.
Currently, AC Milan are in sixth position with three games to play. They are one point behind leaders Liverpool and must win both of their remaining games to qualify. However, if Milan can win their games against Liverpool, they can make the knockout stages kora star.
FC Salzburg
With the draw against Lille in the group stage of CL, Salzburg has moved one step closer to the knockout stage. In their last outing, they beat 10-man Sevilla 1-0 and advanced with the result. After the final whistle, the players celebrated. The Austrian side has 10 points and a good home record in the competition.
A win in the first leg of the match would send Salzburg to the last 16. A defeat against the English side would drop them out of the top two. However, injuries are a concern for Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle. He is missing Fernando and Ousmane Diakite for the match against Chelsea. Another injury concern is the fitness of Luka Sucic, who is doubtful with an adductor injury.
Barca
It’s hard to know who to pick when it comes to Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham’s chances of making it to the knockout stage of the Champions League. The three English sides finished second in Group B with nine points each, but there’s a real chance they could make it to the last sixteen. With the draw for the knockout stages to be made on Monday, it’s possible that any one of them can make it through to the knockout stages.
Liverpool and Chelsea have less players going to the World Cup, so the three Premier League sides will have fewer key players unavailable. Klopp could be without several key midfielders for at least four weeks, while Tottenham are reliant on Son and Kane. However, Chelsea will be able to benefit from the form of Aubameyang and the rotation of their squad.
